Doll vs. Baby

Dollmore makes a couple of dolls I would call "kid-size," in that they're a little more proportionate compared to dolls of similar height.  A Soom Mecha Angel is about 30 inches tall but you'd be hard pressed to find a toddler with such skinny legs.  Meanwhile the Lusion and Trinity dolls have a bit more heft to go along with their height.

I'm pretty keen on big dolls.  They're heavy and expensive, but there's something just so satisfying about a big doll.  I don't know how to express it.  Maybe it's that they feel expensive, while a ten inch doll feels cheap even if it was $400.  And they're easier to paint or sew for, which is handy since Dollmore charges $100 for a faceup and offers very few outfits for those sizes.  You also might be able to find kids clothes or shoes that fit them, although I think the proportions might make it kind of difficult.

I told myself one more doll, and I hold myself to that.  Of course, if someone else wanted to pay for it, that's not a gift horse I would sneeze at (or however the expression goes), and if Elysia or Jude showed up at my door, they'd get a seat at the table.

Speaking of tables, I find myself looking for kid size furniture for my future resin roommate.  I'm sort of appalled when I see the prices.  There's a bit of cheap stuff online via Amazon and whatnot, but you can easily pay $150 or more for a chair that a kid can only use through age five of six!  It's kind of crazy.  If you have twelve kids in rapid succession it might not be a bad deal (except then maybe you can't afford nice things like $150 chairs for toddlers), but if you have one or two that means your chair might get a good five years of use or fewer, assuming a kid is two or three before they start needing fancy chairs.

Clothes are the same way.  You buy kids clothes and before you know it, they're grown out of them.  Time to hand them down or donate them to Goodwill.

Giant dolls are great in that they won't grow out of a piece of furniture or a pair of shoes.  I can be secure in knowing that if I buy a chaise lounge or a chair or whatever for a giant doll, she won't get bigger and be unable to sit there anymore.  I can buy a giant kidcraft kitchen set or whatever and she won't get bored of it and stop playing with it just because she reached a certain age.  It's pretty nice.

I'm kind of excited to get my big chunk of resin,  but at the rate I'm paying her off it'll be quite a while before I get to do any decent clothes or furniture shopping.  And of course, it would be best to have a whole room to dedicate to that sort of thing.  Maybe a 2br apartment with one room for stuff.  Full of kid furniture and Hansa stuffed animals.

And no kids allowed.

Yeah, it would be nice.

Maybe I have a weird definition of "nice."
