It's Good to Be a Regular

I take the night bus.  We have a pretty good system (if the alternative is having NO bus) where you call during the day to schedule a ride.  Then your driver shows up at the place you set, takes you to the place you scheduled earlier in the day, and you pay $2.  Cheaper than a cab (not that we have cabs really) and pretty safe.

Since starting this job I've had to schedule a ride on the night bus every day because we're way outside of town and we finish at 12:30 in the morning.  Even in Honolulu or Tokyo that might be pushing it time-wise.  But because we need to go home somehow, the few of us who are carless call up, schedule our ride, and every single night we've left work together.

Except tonight.

Today I scheduled all my rides for the week.  I was told that I could get the 12:45 slot every day except today.  Today I would have to do 1:05, and is that all right?  I told the lady that I had no other choice, so 1:05 had to be all right.  Beggars can't be choosers, after all.

1:05 actually means that the bus can come between 12:50 and 1:20 and not be early or late.  The bus will only wait 5 minutes for you, and then after that you're SOL.  But I figured I didn't need to be out til 12:50.  I sat and ate the rest of a candy bar I bought (I forgot half of my lunch, ha ha, FML), went to the bathroom, and then I decided to go sit outside and wait.  I had only been out for a few minutes (it was about 12:41) when I saw a night bus pulling up.

Skippy opened the doors and I asked if I was on his list, and then we left.  And Skippy told me that he saw my name and thought, "Wait, she gets off at 12:30!"  So he came early.

I got home by 1.  I bet I got home earlier than if I'd been on the other bus.  The other night we had two new riders who had to get dropped off before me, so I didn't get home til about 1:15.

Hurray for Skippy!

Now I have some time to hang up the rest of my laundry from earlier today and pack tomorrow's lunch.  I had hoped to make some curry before I went to bed, but I don't think that'll happen.
